Lennox AC won't blow cold air even after replacing the capacitor
Need help! We had a AC repair guy out because our central AC was blowing hot air. He said the capacitor was bad and offered to replace for $400! We were able to purchase a capacitor today for $10.00 at a wholesale HVAC store and replaced it ourselves. It still is blowing warm air and is not cooling down. Does anyone have any other suggestions? We hate to have the repair guy come out again... we had to pay him $90 just for a service call! Thanks!

What capacitor? There are 4 of them in different locations in most HVAC equipment. Was it a start or run capacitor? Did you get the Same capacitor (voltage and rate)? Dis you check for any wires being loose and in being disconnected so the unit will not run?

Many times a service person knows that you will not have him fix the unit so they just disconnect a wire somewhere to prevent you from replacing a part and getting the unit to run. I have seen this many times before and I do no condone the practice.

BTW 90.00 for a service call seems cheap for around here but not in your area I guess.

It was a dual capacitor. Only one in the unit and he showed us where it was... we were with him the entire time. What's so strange is everything is running but the copper pipe is not sweating or warm.

You need to use a meter and find out what is wrong. You cannot guess at an AC unit like some things. It should be a really easy fix as the compressor is simple.
