    Plumbing issue
    Here is my situation:

The water level in my floor drain in the basement laundry room is too high
It overflows when the washing machine drains
The toilet in the next room will not flush properly - the water level in the bowl rises, but will not flush away the waste. If I leave the toilet alone, the water level drops below its normal level.
The toilet, sinks, etc, upstairs work fine
When I flush the basement toilet, and then check the laundry room drain(next room over) I can see the level rise and the water stirring

I have augered the toilet, and also rented a power auger to do the florr drain, but had no luck. It was (I believe) a 40ft auger.
I lifted the toilet, and augered the pipe there too (when I lift the toilet, should I see water in that pipe below? Because I did)

    I'm at my wits end,
    John

You should not see water in the pipe below the toilet. You have a drain blockageIf a 40 ft auger did not reach the problem you will probably need to pro to rod outside.

Something doesn't make sense here. If you snaked the basement drain 40 feet and it is still backed up, but the upstairs works fine, they may not be connected to the same drain. Was the basement toilet a retrofit? It may be connected to a backed up storm storm sewer in violation of code.

If your on City sewers call them and they will send someone out to clear.
Most municipalities have a 24 hour on call service. They usually don't charge you if the blockage is on the Municipal Right Of Way.(you definitely have a blockage).
I'm in Southern Ontario and run a large municipal sewer collection system. I plan my construction crews to dig and repair by the number of blockages a house gets.
I would call the City and at least ask them their procedures.
