After a storm barn power won't work
We recently had a severe thunderstorm during which lightening obviously hit something close to or on our house... everything in the house is fine but our barn lights and electric will not work. Could it be a fuse or the breaker or something more serious? (Nothing in the barn was on or plugged in during the storm) Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Depending on how your barn was wired I would say first, to check your breakers. You may have one in your house AND one in the barn itself which would most likely be a MAIN breaker. Whatever you do, don't touch any of the breakers screws or anything metal if you don't have experience with electrical. You can try isolating the problem too. For instance, check to make sure its ALL the power in the barn that is out. Check the outlets by plugging in a blow dryer or something of the like. If your lights AND the outlets are out then it would have to be a tripped breaker or fuse somewhere.

As mentioned, may be a fuse or circuit breaker has tripped, or failed. Could be the wiring in the ground has been damaged by a lightning strike.

If your abilities only allow for resetting circuit breakers, you may need to call in an electrician to troubleshoot the problem and effect repairs as necessary.

The entire electrical system needs to be inspected for possible hidden damage caused by lightning. Any damage done will be beyond your ability to repair.
