A ROUTER is a device that routes data packets from one WAN to another. Broadband routers allow for connecting a LAN to a Broadband network.

A SWITCH is a network device that allows for connecting several devices on a LAN. It handles the movement of data packets between devices on the LAN.

The only similarity between the two is that they both handle the movement of data packets. But the scope is vastly different.

Scope is the area in which the device operates. A switch operates in the scope of a local area network. A Router operates in the scope of a wide area network.

You asked for more details and that is what I supplier you with.
Now if you have a problem understanding the Wiki pieces than that is something completely different.

We VOLUNTEER our time to answer questions here. Therefore we are not going to waste that time typing in an answer when we can just point to someplace that has more detail. If, after reading the detail we refer you to, you have something you don't understand or need clarification on, then feel free to ask a SPECIFIC question. This medium is really not suited for general tutorials, but for the asking (and getting answers for) specific questions.
