Hi,

A visitor used the saniflow loo and turned of the pump by mistake. I guess they thought it was a light switch. I imagine they flushed and while no water came over the bowl the neighbour downstairs told me there was water flooding through the landing ceiling. I rushed back to my flat, saw the pump had been switched off and I turned it back on again. The flooding then slowly ceased but not after doing considerable damage.

My question is: Should a saniflow flood if the power is switched off or should their be an outlet / overflow like on an ordinary toilet.

Hi Ian...

The toilet associated with a saniflo toilet doesn't have an overflow... just a direct connection to the macerator pump.

In this case, if you are absolutley sure that the toilet didn't overflow then the only way water got out of the pump system is through a leak at the pump lid or a connection/cap at the pump case, but even that would have required water to continue flowing somehow.

I'd inspect the toilet tank and the macerator pump connections... only route I can think of. I'd also label the pump switch... reduce chances of this happening again! While labelling things you may also want to post a sign that states that this is a pump toilet and not to throw anything, including paper towels, feminine napkins, or tooth floss, etc. into it... could save you a hassle or two down the road!
