Is this even legal?
Well first off I live in B.C Canada
And well... shaw is refusing to provide "me" with Internet do to my parents debt with them.I do live at my fathers address for financial reasons but two years ago he canceled service with them and I have just started to try and get service with them to get a new modem and have it under my own name nut because we share the same last name I am unable to get it do to the address as well.children can't inherrit their parents debt legally can they? Because this is utterly ridiculous just because of my relation to him as I am not a spouse how is that even fair?

It's not fair... But, maybe your dad should have paid the bill. What's fair about TAKING service, but not PAYING for it?

It sounds to me like they are refusing to provide Internet to the address, not to any one person.
Your father cancelled OR the Internet cancelled him?
I would write them and explain the situation but I know my provider will not provide service to an address which has defaulted before.

He canceled since his business was going bankrupt he couldn't pay them and they kept the account going for two months after he phoned to explain I did not co sign this and am my even blood related I'm adopted and was 17 at the time now we split the home so we can help each other out how does him not paying affect? As I don't think it's legal or very fair.

Let's get down to it, shall we? Are you telling me that your dad didn't watch any TV after he called to cancel? Are you telling me that it's the cable company's fault?
Nahhh.. Your dad CONSUMED the service.. When he recognized they made a mistake, he could have called them again to correct it, or he could have chosen to watch stuff he KNEW he wasn't going to pay for...
So, if you want to talk about FAIR, let's talk about that.

That's a really bad answer since it was out of my control and I was 17 at the time.I pay all my bills.

This isn't the legal/ethical board - it's the legal board. Those are two different things, unfortunately.
What they are doing - freezing the account - is totally legal. Did your father list this debt on his bk petition?

Did he actually file for bankruptcy protection? Were his debts discharged?
I realize you are in Canada, but if the bankruptcy law there is anything like the law here in the U.S. the ISP cannot refuse service because his debt to them was discharged in bankruptcy.

I think the answer you got about "refusing to provide Internet to the address, not to any one person" is the best answer.
As long as your father is the owner of that property then the company likely will keep it a sort of 'no-service' listing.

He called 5 times they told him they went going to cancel it entel a certain time and that now the free modem that everyone here got because we were a testing ground was now considered under rent and wanted back money for it even though he told them he'd just give it back.We weren't able to use the service but they kept charging us two months worth after it was canclled and I can't get it Under my name here because I sub rent.

Well that's Kane but I guess your right still lame as it wasiny my fault or legal responsibility and we rent so I guess I'll have to go with a Different service as I will not pay his debts and don't know how else he handled the situation as he can barely even remember to feed himself in the morning ugh

I researched and wrote a brilliant (if I must say so myself) response which AMHD promptly ate.
The main idea was whether this debt was discharged in bankruptcy - and AK beat me to it.
After reading through the other threads and posts by OP I question whether one of the problems is her spotty credit history and the carrier's concern that she would be unable to pay for service. She isn't a sub-tenant. She lives "at home."
The company probably figures this is a "I'm not paying the bill so disconnect me and I'll open a new account in my daughter's name."
And Excon is right - people who don't pay their bills make MY bills higher to make up for lost revenue.
