    Calculating rate of inflation
    . In 1970 tuition, room, board and fees at a universiry was $3,000. If the price for tuition, room, board and fees increased at the same rate as inflation for the last forty years, what would have been the charge for tuition, room, board and fees at for the 20010-2011 academic year? (The actual charge for tuition, room board and fees at for the 2010-2011 academic year was $39,280.)

    What you need to do is get the inflation index numbers for 1970 -2011, you should be able to get these from bureau of statistic sites or publications. You can then do the calculations
