I need to find out how much I have contributed to my 401k retirement plain
I have contributed my 401k from two separate work places..

Do they go into the same 401k account or do I have to transfer the one to the other.

Each company runs their own 401(k) plan, so that means you have two separate accounts. You should be receiving regular statements in the mail for both accounts - at least quarterly. If not, then perhaps you have moved and not notified the plan administrators of your new address. You should contact the administrators (the investment companies or banks that administer the plan on behalf of your employers) and make sure they have your current info. You can find contact info for the plan administrators on old statements you may have, or you can call the HR department at your former employers and ask who to call to find out about your account.

A 401K is merely an investment, they are not the same plans, and agree you should be getting quarterly ( or at least annual) statements.

How much money you have will depend on how the investments are doing, over the last few years I have lost about 1/2 of the money in mine due to the stock market and economy
