    Social security and medicare on OPT
    Hi,

    I worked on OPT for six months. My employer had cut social security and medicare during that time. I want to claim that from him. How do I do that?

    First, you must go back to the employer and ask that he refund the improperly-withheld Social Security and Medicare taxes.

    He will probably refuse. If so, get the refusal in writing, prefarably on company letterhead.

    Then download Form 843 and IRS Pub 519 from Internal Revenue Service. Form 843 is the form you use to request a refund of these taxes. Read pages 42-46 for the process and support forms you need to submit with Form 843.
