    I have a black red white and bare from ceiling
    The fan has black striped black and white wire and ground I hooked white to white red to striped black to black and ground to ground and nothing worked

    That red wire tells me that there might be a second switch somewhere that also controls this fan, a 3 way switch. # way switches do not have ON/OFF on the toggle, they are blank, no wording. Got any of those?
