My 12 year old son has a lot of bruises I've noticed on him??
Hello, My 12 year old son has cerebral palsy and is non-ambulatory.. his father and I have noticed a lot of small and large bruises all over the front of his body.. some are quarter size and very dark and some look like very small but raised bruises.. His communication is excellent and he said some are from trying to squeeze into areas that his wheelchair will not fit into and he said some are from banging into things while combat crawling around... I;m just concerned because he has never bruised this easily before and more just keep appearing. I asked him if he has any pain in his body like stomach cramps or headaches and he said no, nothing has changed as far as his diet and daily activities. His sleeping pattern is the same. I've also been monitoring his temp. and it's normal , nothing out of the ordinary at all. I do notice some rug burns on his knee's but that is normal for him. Should I wait to see if they go away or take him to his PCP?

Is this at school? If so, does he have an aide? I think you need to ask him very directly if anyone has hurt him in any way. I'm not saying they have, but you want to rule it out. Make sure he knows that he shouldn't be afraid to tell you if that's the case.

Then, definitely go to the PCP. Some medications make you bruise easily. I wish I knew more about Cerebral Palsy. My only experience is with one of my favorite kids in my school. Good luck and I hope you find an answer.

You should take him to his PCP to find out if he is having any issues with a blood clotting disorder.
