I have been with my current boy friend for 8 years on and off he is my high school sweet heart. We broke up about 3 years ago and it lasted for about 2 years and then he came back to me on his own terms and will. At first he said we were just seeing each other and that we would also see other people... and I thought that was his intent... to play the field. But over the last year we have gotten really close again and we have travelled together and done almost everything together. Every time I tell him I love him he just says that's nice or I get no response at all and every time I tell him I want to someday get married and have kids he tells me that that is not his plans ever, but in the same breath he just told my parents that he has no plans to ever leave me. So I am really confused... I have tried on many occasions to figure this one out but I just can't

How important is having kids to you? Are you willing to give that up completely to be with this guy?

After eight years, even if it's off and on, you should be at a point where you can make the decision. Either you stay with him and give up on having kids (because you cannot assume that he'll change his mind on that, ever), or you move on and find somebody who is willing to share that aspect of your life. Don't try to force him into anything, but let him know that these things are important to you, and that if they aren't important to him, then you're going to have to go your separate ways.
