Getting Father's Name On BC After Baby Is Born
I am curious as to how I would go about getting my name added to my child's birth certificate. She is now a month old. We are unmarried and I was living in a different town at the time of her birth. Her original due date was June 7th. Out of the blue she calls me and says she had the baby on May 8th, she called me on May 14th to let me know. What do I need to do to get my name on the BC.
    Thanks

Will the mother consent? If so, it may just be as simple as amending the because. If not you would have to go to court.

But it may not be necessary. All you may need to do is sign an Acknowledgment of Paternity to be declared the legal father.

If the mother don't consent the baby will not have your last. You will lose in court if she fights it with a Lawer. This is law in. LA

The question was getting his name on the birth certificate, not necessarily changing the baby's last name. I agree that without the mother's consent he stands almost no chance of getting a name change. But he does not need the mother's consent, only a court order, to be declared the legal father. And that is what is important, not just what is on the birth certificate.

Thanks, that answered my question. I was just wanting to be legally declared the father so that I have a legal say. I have no problem with her having her mothers last name, we agreed on that a long time ago.
