Is the water supplier obliged to fit a stop cock in the street to isolate a premises
I have discovered that there is no mains stop cock (shut off valve) in the street to isolate my house in the event of a burst or leak before the (typical) under sink domestic stop cock. If a burst, it could take days to turn off the mains feeding the whole road & dig up the footpath to install a method of isolating the premises.
There was one when house built 20 years ago, but the water company discovered that in error, it is connected to the house next door and there is none for my house.
Is there a requirement to have an external method of isolating a premises, and if so, who is responsible for fitting one?

Is there not a shut off at the meter for the water going to your home?

Next where are you located at, since at least in all parts of the US, there are only turn off for larger sections of a community area, if there are trouble with their main lines

Hello Fr. Chuck - Thank you for your kind & informative response. Actually I am based in the UK!! (Dreary London... ).
I asked for a water meter to be installed 14 years ago and have constantly complained since that I am being hugely overcharged for water. After years of hassle, the water company eventually came and found that the meter was on the house next door who have a load of children!! i.e. I have been paying their water bill and my house is seldom occupied at all - and I am a batchelor!!
