    Indiana laws on child abandonment
My daughter and toddler grandson have moved out of my home and in with her boyfriend (who is not the baby's father). She has since quit taking him to his normal daycare and has been allowing the paternal grandmother to keep him for several days (24 hour days) in a row. Although I don't care for this arrangement and I am unable to provide childcare on a long term babsis, due to my work and school schedule, I have refrained from voicing my opinion. However, I am concerned that the paternal grandmother will attempt to take the baby away from my daughter on the grounds of abandonment. The father lives there but doesn't have much interaction with the baby, does not have any custodial rights or pay any child support. We live in Indiana. Should I be concerned?

This is called child care, abandonment is leaving the child in the bath room or in the car at Walmart.

Of course family ( bio father) can try and so anything is possible of course,
But no leaving and arranging proper care for your child is not abandonment

Wow, she leaves the child in the care of its grandparent for several days! How horrible.

I gather your daughter was not married to the father and became pregnant at a young age.

At least she is leaving the child with a responsible adult.

What makes you think the father has no custodial rights? Were they stripped by a court? Was your daughter awarded sole legal custody? Is the father on the birth certificate?

Whether the paternal grandmother can get custody is questionable, but possible. But you have no standing here. You can warn your daughter about it, but its up to her to care for her child.
