    Hair loss on ear
I noticed my kitty's ear was kind of stiff from the tip to about a half inch down. A day or two later the hair started to peel off. My husband said that she must have hurt her ear and it was just a scab coming off. However, the edge of the ear where the hair is coming off is curled. We just moved across country and won't have the money for the vet for at least a month. What could this be and what can we do?

From the description you gave, sounds like ear mites. Check inside kitties ears. If there appears to be small black grainy things in there, it is ear mites. Personally, I find liquid Ivermectin to be the best at getting rid of them. But, you can try using a few drops of baby oil in each ear. Massage the ear base gently to make sure it spreads around well and use a soft cloth or wad of cotton to clean out the ear.

I am sure someone else will stop by and weigh in with their own home remedies. When you save enough money up, it would be a good idea to bring kitty to a local vet for a full check up and develop a relationship with them in case of emergency down the road.

Good advice Ruby. As an add on, it may be worth calling the vet and explaining your financial situation and ask if they will take a couple of post dated cheques. Maybe I'm still living in the past but you won't know unitil you ask. Worked for me. Good Luck
