In 2006 I was involved in a car accident. Seven months later I moved to NE. In 2012 I went to the DMV to renew my license, this is when it was explained to me that my license was suspended in May of 2011 do to a judgement against me. This is the first I have ever heard of it. I called around in IL and have received no help or direction. I would even know where to make payments on this judgement, nor do I have the funds to do it. How can this be possible?

If you had an accident, and it was your fault ( or you did not addess it and they declared it your fault) and if you had no insurance at the time, or if your insurance failed to pay for it, either the person you hit, or their insurance company sues you for the damages.

This is reported to the DMV, and your drivers license is revoked or suspended till the money is paid.

They would have most likely tried to serve you at your old address, esp if you did not have any change of address done

So the law suit would be most likely either in the county where the wreck happened or the country where you used to live. That is the courts you need to check with first.
