What's wrong with my dog?
I have 4 year old German Shepherd named Tank. Yesterday I let him outside and he went to the bathroom, then started to heav, for a good 5 minutes, finally he was able to throw up. He then ran with the dogs next door, so I didn't think anything of it, but, the rest of the day he was very lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink any water, I tried to give him a treat and he didn't want that either. Then this morning I woke up early to him attempting to throw up again, but this time he couldn't. He still has not ate anything or drank any water and now I am worried about dehydration since it is 8+ degrees in my house. Any idea what could be wrong? Should I take him to the vet? Any suggestions on how to cure an upset stomach if that's what he has? I plan on trying to feed him pumpkin, along with boiled chicken and rice... any other suggestions?

Did he get into the garbage and eat something around the house he shouldn't have? I would get him to the vet as soon as possible. Dogs can't not eat or drink for very long without dire results.

That's the thing, he is a great dog, the garbage never gets touched, he doesn't chew anything besides sticks. I have not seen him with anything. I bought some "organic" dog treats at our city market, and it seems that maybe those are the cause of this. I gave him one Saturday and 2 on Sunday... I am thinking maybe that is the problem.

Thank you for the attitude, I already have an appointment, just trying to get any insight I can before we get there. I am not one of those owners who lets their animal suffer before getting help. I am very proactive when it comes to him. Just like to get any and all insight so I am prepared for anything the vet may tell me.

No attitude here. You had asked, "Should I take him to the vet?" but no mention that you had an appointment. If you read the threads on this board, you will see that people want answers off the Internet and from us, and are reluctant to go to a vet for whatever reason. Too often, I worry about the animal and fear for its health and even its life. I'm glad you are a responsible owner.

I mis-took your statement and I apologize. I made the appoinment a few minutes after posting. I couldn't handle him trying to vomit. The vet couldn't get me in until 6pm... so hopefully things turn around for the better and not worse in the meantime. I definitely do not trust only "internet answers" I just like to get different insight.

Hmmm.. large breed dog with unproductive vomiting... I would guess bloat or GDV.. probably more along bloat.
Seeing as how either one is an urgent problem, I would see if anyone can fit you in for an emergency

I took him in and the vet just said upset stomach. Of course half hour before I took him in he finally ate his food and drank 2 bowls of water. Making me worry for nothing! :) They think it was a mixture of the heat and an "organic" dog treat that did not sit well with his stomach. He has always had stomach problems, has to be on special food and can't really have any treats besides milkbones, picky picky dog. But I love him. Thanks everyone for your opinions!

It's been a life long problem... I just can't seem to hold interest in anything. It's not that I don't have interests, it's just when I engage in them and learn how limited they are I just grow tired of it. I attribute it to why I can't hold a job for more than a few months, because I have to make...
