    Removing valve stem in shower faucets
    See below.

    My shower faucets have been leaking. I have deduced that the problem must be with the valve seat not seating properly. I tore down the faucet to what you see in the picture. However I don't see a way to "easily" remove the valve stem/housing. I was expecting to see something I could fit a socket onto but all sides are round/smooth.

    This is a house I moved into so I don't know the make/model of the faucet.

    Anyone have any ideas as to how to remove the valve stem?

    Put a pair of pliers on the bonnet packing and back it out counterclockwise. You may now do the same with the stem. Good luck, Tomn

    Tried pliers to back out the bonnet packing to no avail. Space not big enough to get a good enough grip. Is it OK to remove the valve stem first in the hopes of having more room? Just don't want to screw anything up to the point I have to call someone.

    Thanks.

    PS- Any recommendations on the type of pliers? I've tried a couple different ones.
