I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for nearly a year now. He's an amazing guy - intelligent, attractive, fun, charming, witty, affectionate, caring, the list goes on...

We've never really had any issues in our relationship, except for one... He's extremely jealous of my ex-boyfriend... from HIGH SCHOOL. (I'm in my 4 year of university).

My relationship with the ex was eventful to say the least. Not only was it the kind of relationship where he pretty much used me for physical needs (although we never had sex), he lead me on, but never loved me. He could see that I was naïve, and since I thought I loved him I never realised how he was using me. After we broke up, I tried as much as I could to get him out of my life. Only problem is that he is the brother of one of my very close friends, so I do bump into him on occasion. Even though when we first broke up, it took me a while to get over the hurtful break up, at present I have absolutely no feeling for him at all.

The problem at present is, that my current boyfriend can't stand the thought of me being in the presence of my ex (even though he knows I don't want to see him and don't do it by choice). Now I'm moving into my new flat, which just happens to be very close to the ex's and my boyfriend can't even stand the thought of me bumping into him the street for 1 min. I haven't even moved into that new flat yet, but my boyfriend had a dream that I would bump into my ex, and it drove him crazy. Is this insane jealousy? Why is he being so crazy? I would NEVER cheat on my boyfriend, specially not with my ex - whom he knows I despise. In fact, I hadn't even thought about my ex in years until my boyfriend asked me about it and made it a problem in our relationship.

Why is he so jealous? Is he even jealous? Why is it such a big deal to him that I will randomly (not by choice) have to see my ex?

What should I do?

About your problem, it is no doubt tricky, but not unusual. It happens. You need not do anything. Just carry on life, and as you said, you will never like to be with your ex and will never cheat on your present lover, or boyfriend, I would say, your love and liking is genuine and what I would have said has already been said by you in so many words. I would just wish you good luck.

Don't worry about your bf; he would gradually come to terms.

I really hope my boyfriend comes to terms with this issue. For some reason it really bothers him.
