Septic tank issue
I recently had my tank emptied because I had backage come up in the tub. No issues outside. After they pumped my tank I had. Puddle of water where they dug or at the tank. I dug it up noticed it was coming from around the lid. It's a concrete tank with concrete lids. I noticed there is a gab between the lid and the tank about inch so its not really air tight could that be a issue or my field lines or any other feedback to check would be great. Thank you brandon

The liquid should not be coming up to the top of the tank, it should be no higher than the drain fields. When they pumped the tank, did they say anything about how much slug there was.
Did you have the drain fields tested and checked ? Did you have the baffles within the tank checked ( esp if it is a concrete tank )

I asked them to check the tank overall and if anything look out of order to let me know but I think all they did was pump the tank. I asked them about the water coming up from the lid /yard now because it wasn't before they pumped it and then they say oh well he saw roots in your field lines.. which all he dug up was the first access hole by the inlet line. I dug up to the second access cover and took it off looked to see if something may be blocking the outlet line but far as I could tell looked OK. As far as I got done today

My bets on a clogged drainfield. Get someone out there to check and see. Let me know what they find. Good luck, Tom

Septic tank outlit/field lines/ditch
Recent post on my septic tank believes my field lines are clogged or bad. I was wondering if this needs to be replaced can I run a pipe from the outlet of the tank to a ditch behind my house Vs having it go into field lines.

The septic tank has to be opened and a line ran from the inside of the tank ( unless you have a clean out after the septic tank leading into the drain field).
And perhaps a camera ran first to see what is going on.
But the main trouble is how are the lines ran, most are not one straight pipe, but may go out, and T or Y once or twice to be 3 or 4 separate lines out along the seep area.
Do you even know the layout of your drain field ?

You wish to discharge your sewage out on the open ground? That's not going to happen, EVER! You would take us back to the 1600's where they simply dump their crap out of the bedroom onto the street? Not in this day and age. Get a drainfield company out there to check things out. Good luck. Tom

I understand your reasoning but you just can't discharge sewage out on the open ground no matter where you live, This would constitute a open cesspool and that's a no-no in so many codes. Regards, Tom

[ 15 Answers ]
Every time we get a heavy rain I get water coming from the leach bed back into the septic tank. Is there a check valve that can be installed to prevent this from happening or any other suggestions? I have been told that a curtain drain would help, but that is costly.
