Ask a nurse:spinal pain please help
Last night my spine started to hurt. At first it was just uncomfortable but after a period of maybe two or three hours it became unbearable. The pain seemed to be only along my spinal column and I could not sit, stand, or lie down in a comfortable position. I can only describe the pain as an ache at the bone level, but when it was at it's worst point my kidneys hurt and the muscles in my hips and legs began to cramp as well. I did not have a fever during any of this. Eventually after taking two tablets of tylenol pm and drinking lots of water I was able to lie on my side and apply a hot compress I made with a zip lock bag filled with warm water until I fell asleep. I feel OK now but am worried as to what happened to me. Can you help? I am a white male in decent physical health 42 years old and I live in Arizona

Sorry but you should really seek a proper medical diagnosis from a healthcare professional. For a lot of obvious reasons we do not diagnose on AMHD. It cannot be accomplished over the internet.

I don't have any insurance. I would not try to hold anyone liable for their opinion either. I would hope for just a little insight as to the possibilities of what happened. Can't you do any better than say go to a healthcare professional? I had already figured that much out for myself.

Like tickle said, we just cannot diagnose you over the Internet (and you really don't want us to). Your symptoms could be the result of many different causes involving spinal alignment to kidneys or muscles or intestinal or who knows what.

Has it ever happened before--a milder version perhaps? Had you done something strenuous or unusual that day? A real-life doctor will take your medical history, ask questions about your lifestyle, and poke and prod your body. We can't do all that, nor do we have the credentials to diagnose.
