Where to ask questions about books
Years ago I read a novel about a young woman teaching in a college town (perhaps New Haven), who is in love with a man named Spangle. He isn't around, but his mother calls the young woman. There is a man who watches the woman from across the street and frightens her, until she meets him and finds out he is a magician. I had thought this was an Anne Beattie work, but I can't find it anywhere, and it has been driving me crazy. I know the outline is sketchy, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate your sending them along. Thanks.
