    Normal Tattoo?
I recently got a tattoo (3 weeks ago) to cover a scar, but now it looks funny. The scab has fallen off, but my skin still looks wrinkly and it doesn't look normal. It looks raised and like it's not part of my skin. Does that mean that I don't scar correctly? Will the tattoo stay like that forever?

Did you keep a lot ( I mean a lot ) of lotion on the tattoo every day for that first few weeks, to keep the skin moist ?

Did you keep for the first couple of days A/D ointment or something similar on it to help start the healing.

I do know we all heal and scab differently, but on any of mine, there was never large heavy scabs, just light flakes at times. ( and did you make sure to keep it out of the sun as much as possible and also not scratch it)

But if there is a question, go back by the tattoo shop and talk to the artist or shop owner.

It will take a couple of months for it to really start looking more normal and the skin may at least seem to feel slightly different, I think it is just in my head, but?

Yup, I did all of that. I'm still putting ointment on it, but I haven't seen any changes. It doesn't hurt that much anymore, but it still itches, is that normal?

Yes, itching some at 3 weeks is normal, up to 4 and 5 weeks is common.

People all heal at different speeds. But all tattoo artists I know ( but I am sure there are some that may not) all will do some touch up if part of a tattoo does not work just right.

I had a issue of a small mole, ( not a good idea to tattoo on a mole) so he worked a design around it to work best, but did some touch up to make it work best.

I think the more important question here is... what did the skin look like before the tattoo? You mentioned that you got the tat to cover a scar... how big was the scar? Was the skin all raised and wrinkled before or only after? Do you have any known allergies to something that was in the pigment or perhaps the cream you have been using?

It was a small scar, and it's only in a small part of the tattoo, but the skin looked completely normal besides that. Actually, now you can barely make out the scar, and now it's the smoothest part in the area. I don't know of any allergies.
