New user, quick question for Dr.Bill regarding EtG test
    Dr.Bill,

I had 4 (stronger 9% abv) 12 fl oz. beers starting at 10 am Saturday and finished at 2 pm. I had an EtG test Tuesday at 9 am. I am 6'3, 230 lbs. and mostly an occasional drinker. I drank plenty of water over the weekend. Could I be in the clear, I know my test is done by Redwood. Thanks for your time.

You should be clear of EtG at that time based on slightly less than 5 standard drinks (US). That is using a 100ng cutoff. I also compared your consumption based on grams of alcohol per kg of body weight (.67) and all show around the 36 hour mark for elimination. Found no one failing beyond 48 hours.

The spacing of your drinks is also in your favor.

Please let us know the result.

Thanks for the quick reply, however I seem to be calculating a different number for standard drinks (US) than you. I am getting equivalent of 7.2 standard drinks due to the 9% of the 4 beers. I used this site : http://rethinkingdrinking.niaaa.nih.gov/ToolsResources/DrinkSizeCalculator.asp

You are correct. I was adding to oz rather than abv. Lucky I stated the basis. That raises the g/kg ratio to .97 and the number of drinks becomes more problematic. The literature simply doesn't contain measured elimination studies above 6 drinks nor g/kg in excess of .78. Above those levels it becomes more of a guessing game.

You are probably in the range of 60-72 hours for EtG clearance (on average). The top range is unusual but can occur which would provide about an 18% of still having detectable EtG/EtS.

The spacing of your drinks takes on added significance as you were eliminating EtOH at nearly the same rate as consumption, based on your size. Under these circumstances the water helped.

You are in a fuzzy zone but the odds are in your favor. From those reporting results on this site the clearance rate for 8 - 15 drinks indicates under 60 hours. Of course there is no way of confirming those results.
