    Dual status return claim wife as dependent
    If wife never be in the state during 2011, husband file dual status return. Can he claim wife as a dependent?

    Husband arrived US in 2009, stayed until 3/7/11. E-1 visa.

    Wife only entered US for 5 days in 2010, E-2 visa. Did not enter during 2011.

    No kids.

    You are dual status for 2011. Your default date of termination of residency is Dec 31, 2011. So you can file joint return as residents. You must both report worldwide income for 2011.
