    Ultrasound questions!
My ultrasound said 7w2d AND 5w5d. What does that mean?

I am assuming that the 7week/2day count would be your count from your last menstrual period. The 5week/5day is the ultrasound's estimate of baby's age. No need to worry. Sometimes the first ultrasound estimate may be a week or two different.

But I'm still confused, is the 5w5d the fetal age then? Gahh this whole thing confuses me.

Look to see if there is a GA by the 7w2d notation. That would mean gestational age, or from the start of your last period. Most women would not be pregnant at that time but it is often used, at least initially, for dating a pregnancy. The 5w5d may be fertilizational age, roughly what is expected to be the actual time from conception. Dates from ultrasound are based on what is seen and measurements of baby. This early on, it would be from what is seen such as a gestational sac and a yolk sac.

You will likely have another ultrasound done within a few weeks to get a better indication of how far you are as more will be seen by that time, including baby. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thank you for your answers! It did say GA next to the 7w2d date, so I'm guessing the 5w5d is the fetal age, as in age from conception but when the doctor gave me these two dates she said I'm 6.5 weeks along.

Whaaaat? This whole pregnancy/weeks thing is so confusing. Anyone know what the doctor is talking about when she says I'm 6.5 weeks along, gestational age, but the fetus is 5w5d?

It's an approximation at this point. She took the middle of the road. More will be determined when you have another ultrasound as they will be able to get measurements of baby which will give a bit better indication of how far along the pregnancy is.

Keep in mind that ultrasound is not exact, but it is the best tool for dating a pregnancy early on. You will have a window of time at the end of your pregnancy of what is considered a normal time for giving birth. You could go a couple of weeks before your due date or a couple of weeks after and either would be perfectly normal.
