Eliminating noises caused by the sun
    Hi

I have a 14 year old house with timber joists in the loft and a tiled roof. Every morning when the sun hits the roof, I hear loud popping and cracking noises which seem to be coming from the loft and walls. I've inspected the loft area and everything seems fine. I have also added extra insulation but this has made no difference.

There is very little noise on a cloudy morning but strong winds can cause the same noise.

    Any ideas ?

Thermal expansion is your cause and very little can be done to prevent this short of changing the color of the tiles.

Not much you can do except possibly usingsome shade source. My metal roof does the same thing. As Mr. B said, thermal expansion is the culprit.
