    What sealant should I use inside a toilet reservoir
    The tank-to-bowl bolts in our toilet have rusted completely through. We bought replacement bolts with rubber washers, but one of the replacement bolts has a slow leak. Is there a sealant that will work underwater to seal the washers, that will not glue them in place (which we don't want - we need to be able to replace them at some later date). Thanks!

    You have to take it back apart and find out why its not sealing... I guarantee you there was some dirt or crud that's keeping the gasket from forming a seal.

    Anything less WILL come back and haunt you.

    I agree, sealant is not used in this install. Something was done wrong or there is debris. Have you tried tightening a bit more?

    Look very closely at the bolt hole. Do you see a tiny crack in the china? There's one thing to watch and that's over tightning the bolts. DO NOT tighten the tank down "rock solid". Leave about 1/4 to 3/8" play in the tank. If you don't the first time someone leans back it will put a strain on the bolts and crack the base next to the bolt.
    Now I don't know if that's the case here but it's worth checking out. In the meantime follow the advice given above and let us know what works for you. Good luck,\, Tom
