How to replace the wires conecting the ac unit to the thermostat?
Ok so I'm going to try and explain this the best way I can. We have had a problem with our children snapping the wire that goes from the outside ac unit to the house and then to the thermostat. We have cut and spliced it twice but it has happened again. So I went to lowest and they explained to me how to and more wire, splice, and then make it so the children cannot tear it again. Problem is I went to the unit grabbed the wire still connected to the house and cut and spliced it. Then connected the spliced end to the new wire(I cut a price of the wire still connected to the house which inside has a red and white small wire into lowest and they gave ne 3 ft of new wire). When I went to do the same to the wire that was left on the ac unit I peeled away the outer brown coating and there was only one white wire. Then I peeled away the white and there was not just one big copper wire but instead a bunch if small copper wires? Now I'm not sure what part or parts of these many small copper wires comeing to the red and white wires that are still connected to the house? I was told I will probably have to open the panel in the unit and completely replace this entire wire connecting to the thermostat? Can I do this or should I call an electrician?
