Is it better to get Portuguese passport in Portugal or Goa?
What are the advantages of collecting Portuguese passport in Lisbon? Can I travel to Lisbon on my BI or I have to apply for a visa.
Can I do the OCI formalities in Lisbon?
What are the disadvantages of collecting Portuguese passport in Goa and doing the OCI formalities in Goa?

If you have only BI then you require visa to go to Portugal. Yes, you can do OCI formalities in Lisbon after collecting passport there.

Apparently takes a long time to get the passport done in Goa. You can apply for OCI while in India only if you are on long term visa. If you collect your passport in Goa then you have no long term Indian visa and will have to Lisbon to get OCI done. The Indian authorities will be waiting to deport you as you lose your Indian citizenship when you take up the citizenship of another country.

People who got their passports / BI done in India had their names passed on to the Indian authorities and their names were struck off the electoral rolls, ration lists, etc. By getting the passport / BI done abroad there is no such issue because Portugal allows dual citizenship while India does not allow dual citizenship. So the Portuguese authorities have to follow Indian rules when in India. Mind you, OCI is not dual citizenship but confers on you many benefits available to Indian citizens.

As per the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India there are no restrictions to taking up any private sector jobs. Public sector jobs are not allowed.

As per the MHA - following are the benefits which an OCI is not entitled to:
The OCI is not entitled to vote, be a member of Legislative Assembly
Or Legislative Council or Parliament, cannot hold constitutional posts such
As President, Vice President, Judge of Supreme Court or High Court etc. and
He/she cannot normally hold employment in the Government.

    Dear reader,
My father was born back in 1930 prior to 1961- and I got his birth, marriage, and death registered in Portugal, and have all his related documents in hand.
Now I need to get my portuguese passport done, can some one tell me how to do it in UK or any ECC countries, as I feel that passport issued in these european union countries is not looked down upon than the one issued in Goa, where the immigration officers from the country if visit will doubt its authenticity as told by my cousins who had collected their passport in Goa stating " Issued At" Goa please reply me as I need earliest assistant and guidance - either here or at---------- [email protected]- you comments will be appreciated- god bless

The lawrei lawyers in portugal are quite efficient and got my mothers and my birth registered for 1200 euros. You will need a translated birth certificate, parents BI and give power of attorney to them. Takes around two months
