My boyfriend has this problem of opening up to people about his feelings and thoughts because he fears that he'll hurt the persons feelings. But him not saying anything gives off a bad impression to people. Is there anyway I can help him open up more?

I take it you mean 'my boyfriend has this problem of NOT opening up to people.'

First, I would rather not assume that that is a problem in and of itself. Many fine people get by just fine socially without revealing feelings. They just prefer to talk about events, history, science, movies, books, places -- countless things to talk about!

So how do you know he has a 'problem?' Have people told you? How many people?

Second, does he feel it's a problem? If so, perhaps he could ask here. If not, I would say end of story. He's your boyfriend and you must love him, so you got him as a package, and apparently not opening up is part of that package. I think all of us have some things about the ones we love that aren't 100% wonderful or perfect or to our liking.

I love him for who he is but my family sees it as a problem and always complain to me about it likr why doesn't he open up more to us? Why do you always have to speak for him, can't he speak for himself? This is what I meant by him giving a bad impression.
