    Freezing with no furnace
I am having problems with getting my furnace running,, the pilot is lit, and when I turn it on at the thermostat it acts like it is starting (purging) but will not actually light. I was told it was the gas valve so I replaced the valve and I got it to run for about a week but I could not keep the pilot lit without the jumper wire on the new valve. I then replaced the thermo-coupler to see if it would stay lit without the jumper wire and it will not. I also had the gas company come out to see that there was enough gas pressure in the line and it checked out fine. If you have any ideas, please let me know,, got a family in the cold here. Thanks in advance

Do not let your family freeze. Call a professional before you spend more money on parts you do not need.

Honestly, if I had the extra money right now I would have called a professional already.

I did some searching through the site here last night after asking the question and found a couple of things I could try. I did not have 25 volts coming into the fuel regulator and started tracing the blue wires,, I used my meter to start testing and the thing started working. I don't know if I had a bad connection or what?? I do have a furnace right now though. Not to be a smart a$$ but what would it have cost to have a professional tell me this? I understand that you can't get in over your head, and I was only asking for something simple that might work in getting heat back in my house.

I am active on a number of forums here. I think Northern Heat has done an outstanding job of putting together his sticky. I am glad it helped. Problems that go away themselves usually come back at an inconvenient time. You will know where to look next time.

I took the time to cut the power and clean the connections,, Just scratched them up a bit and then made sure they were crimped on tight. I was careful in what I was touching as I have dealt with electricity for years now but have never played with the furnace. I can't see that a loose connection would have been the problem, but for some reason it is working?? Maybe one of the sensors is going out and I cut power and cleaned before I checked for 25 volts in and out of each sensor,, should have done that first to see exactly which switch was tripped,, but if it happens again, at least I have a starting point.
