Problem with craftsman dyt 4000 mower pto shut of
I was mowing my lawn when the mower blades shut off. The mower was still running so I drove it to the barn. I turned it off to look at the belts to see if they were good and they were. I went to turn it back on and nothing will happen. I have replaced the pto switch and that did not help it still will not even turn over. It is a craftsman dyt 4000 riding mower about 4 years old. Does anyone know what the problem could be.

By nothing do you mean it won't start, not a sound at all when you trun the key? Sounds like a safety switch to me. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part...dMod=917275632

Yes when I turn the key nothing happens I have replaced the seat switch also are their anymore safety switches on my mower? Also could it have something to do with the ignition switch I noticed thet the pto switch is connected to it.

There are safety switches on the seat, clutch/brake and more depending on the model. Yes it could be an issue with the ignition switch too. Do you have a 12 volt tester? If so, start by following the power from the battery to the ignition switch

The PTO wires enter on the front of the unit underneath the engine. It's very difficult to get into a position to even see them. Look for two green wires feeding off the wiring harness, and going through a hole in the frame to the unit, probably on the right side of the engine below the starter. If they get some slack in them, they may droop down and when you turn your machine to the right, the tie bar between the front wheels may squeeze the wires against the tractor frame. If the insulation gets worn away from this repeated squeezing, two things could happen - one or both of the wires could be severed, killing the mower deck, and the other is that an exposed wire, broken or not, may ground itself to the frame, and blow the fuse. It's a 20 amp fuse, and if it blows, nothing works - your machine is dead. So if all your 'safety' switches are good, and your battery is good, and your iginition and PTO switches are good, and nothing else seems to be amiss, check the wires leading to the PTO unit. In my judgement, it's a bad design when the wires can droop into a mechanism that has so little tolerances that it can damage or sever one or both of the wires by you simply turning the machine.
