My wife needs help to settle a judgement
My wife and I are planning in buying a home bit a judgement that she has keeps coming up on her credit report. So she wants to take care of the judgement but doesn't know how. She has had this judgement for a while now but they have not garnished any wages or freezed up any bank accts . She's afraid to call the creditors attorney since it has been a long time they might remember about her judgement and add more fees to the amount. We have gone to two lawyer to seek help .the first one told her to call and negotiate. The second one said he will.take the case but will charge 500 to start. Sot now my wife doesn't know what she should do . What can she do in this case.

It's not a question of remembering - in most cases the Judgment is "good" for 10 years and renewable for another 10, for a total of 20 years. I have no idea why there's been no move to collect. The creditor also has no incentive to negotiate. There's a Judgment for the full amount - why settle for less?

I would believe what two Attorneys have told you over what strangers tell you on message boards.

I'd pay the $500 and get this taken care of or else I'd give up the dream of buying a house.
