The hormones from the depo shot can stay in your body for a while after stopping regular shots. It can vary from woman to woman and depending on how long she was on the shot. Many women have trouble conceiving anywhere from 1-2 years after stopping depo. If she has a clean bill of health from her doctor, then she is just going to have to let nature run it's course. I will say, from personal experience with Depo, that it is not the friendliest of birth control options. It wreaked havoc on my body, and I have heard many others with the same issues.
At the same time though, I know there are countless others who have no issue whatsoever. With any birth control, your body needs some time to return to normal. I suggest that if she has not conceived within the next 6 months, she discuss with her doctor. Good luck.

I also want to add, that it can take upwards of a year for healthy women who were never on birth control to conceive, sometimes longer. So I wouldn't be too concerned.

    Hi shelby24... welcome to AMHD,

It is likely just due to the depo. Many women will find that it alters their cycles for awhile, sometimes for quite awhile. She can speak to her gyn about ways to perhaps get things going again. Her doctor may prescribe something like Provera for example, or even birth control pills. It sounds as though it would go against what she is trying to achieve, but sometimes these methods may be used for a short time to try and regulate cycles.

It very well may be just a matter of giving it more time. Frustrating, to be sure. Unfortunately, women are not always informed of the possible side effects to depo provera.
