Whole House Attic Fan stopped working after a loud pop?
We have a 30" CertainTeed Whole House Attic Fan. Works out, but went to turn it on tonight and after a few seconds of turning it on,there was a Violent Sounding THUG (a Popping noise- a Bang).. the Shutters Closed Automatically, and now there is a quiet hum... Any ideas?
    Thanks

Belt broke, Most likely it has a belt ( looks like a fan belt on a car) that goes from the motor to the fan blade. The shutters closed since they open, or most do, from the air flow of the fan or because of fan rotation. The hum would be the motor still turning,

2X for Fr. Chuck, most likely a fan belt.

One other possibility is the motor's start capacitor blew.

Have you gone up to see if the belt broke? Replacement is simple.

Thanks! Crossing fingers that's all it is.. I am guessing I will have to go through the attic, as opposed to taking off the Shutter to check this out?

Yes,you will not have enough space access and will probably need.to loosen the motor mount. Good luck.
