    Staph infection in the brain
My boyfriend is in the hospital (admitted Friday 3/23). He is 58yrs old, Insulin Diabetic (approx 30yrs). He has a sore on the bottom of his left foot with a reddish/purple discoloration going up the outside of the foot towards the ankle. Its about 2" wide at the base of the discoloration and about stops just below the ankle. They are giving him Antibotics via IV. He's had a migraine like headache that comes and goes for a couple days, light sensitivity, fever, stiff neck and has been sleepy a lot. He called me this morning and told me he had called a friend of ours by mistake and woke her up, wished her a happy birthday and talked to her for about 5 min then asked her "Lorna are you OK? You sound funny". My name is Lorna he was talking to Niwana. He then called me and told me about it and asked me to go online to Facebook and wish her a happy birthday. Its not her birthday today its mine. I ask him if it was her birthday too and he said yeah its her birthday. I then had to tell him it was my birthday not hers. Im a bit concerned that he may have a staph infection that's affecting his brain. Should I be concerned?

    Is his Physician concerned?

Depending on how sick he is, the medication he's being given, how his insulin is being administered (dosage and times) several things could make him very confused.

You, as his girlfriend, have no legal standing to discuss this with his Physician unless he's granted you that privilege. What does his family say?

He's in the process of doing the paper work to have me added to be able to discuss his medical issues right now. He's being given Vancomycin IV. His insulin is by injection and normally he takes it before breakfast and before dinner. However, the hospital has been giving it to him several times a day whenever they feel he needs it. I spoke with his nurse at the hosptial about 2 hours ago. They took a skin culture on Friday so hopefully we'll hear something today or tomorrow. She also informed me that he had a CT Scan this morning so we are waiting for the results.
