My Social Security Disability back pay and taxes my husband owes
I just got approved for my SSA/SSI. My husband is my payee and I just received my first monthly check from Social Security Disability, but not my Supplement or the back pay as of yet. I just realized that my husband still owes for taxes prior to us getting married and now I am worried that the IRS can take that from me. I have not received anything in the mail of them doing so, but my heart is thumping here... panicking now... cause I was going to use that for some needed medical care.

I guess what I am asking here is: By my husband being my payee and the checks go into his acct... can the IRS make me pay for his back taxes??

How was the account opened? In his INDIVIDUAL name or as payee on YOUR BEHALF.

If it's in his individual name change it immediately. If it's deposited and taken by IRS you will have an uphill fight to get it back. Avoid the problem. Change the account into his name as payee.

It comes in his name as my payee. Is that what you meant Judy?
