I am 16 years old and I currently just got off probation from skipping school. Yesterday evening I got caught stealing $13 worth of makeup at a walmart in pasadena Texas. (yes. I'm feeling extremely stupid at the moment.) The lady told me I would be getting a letter in a few days and she said nothing about police. Will this go on my permanent record? Will I get a major fine? What's going to happen next?

You won't know what or if anything goes on your (juvenile) record until this is resolved, assuming you were stopped by a store security guard. These days more and more stores are charging a hefty fee (possibly around $500) to keep it out of court and a record. It can also be a notice to appear in court instead. Wait to see what the letter says and answer back.

Your parents will be sent a letter from the store, most likely asking for 300 to 500 dollars civil penalty for this act. Normally that is all that happens.
