    Honda Ballade 1997 starter relay?
    Hi
My 1997 honda ballade starts sometimes and other times it won't, esppecially when I drove for a while and it's hot.
When it doesn't start only the dash lights go on, but the engine doesn't swing.
I had the starter relay replaced a month ago and it seemed to solve the problem, but recurring now.
What could be the reason for this?

Checked battery water, it's fine. It started yesterday, but there seemed to be a delay between me turning the key and the starter.about a second or two.
WhenI kick start it it starts very quickly and easy.

. Remove and fully charge the battery. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.

. Clean the battery terminals and cable connections, main ground, and connections going to the starter motor and solenoid. Since the starter grounds through the mounting bolts, remove them and ensure that they are free of corrosion. Clean them on a wire wheel, if necessary.

. Check or replace the ignition switch for wear, pitting, or melting.

You could put a test light or meter at the solenoid and see if voltage is present at the instant you press the start button.
Monitoring voltage at the solenoid or starter may reveal problems mentioned by TX.

I have a 1993 Honda Ballade 160i(South Africa). I think this is the same as a Honda Civic 1.6. The car runs fine when cold, but as the engine heats up, it starts to mis-fire under 3000 RPM. I am looking for some advice on where to start checking?
