    What will be my W4 filing status: I am married, wife is in India(unemployed)
    Hi,
    I am working in the US on H1B. My wife is in India and she is unemployed.
    I don't have any other source of income except this one job. What will be my w4 filing status?

    Under special IRS rules for foreign workers, the only way you can submit the Form W-2 is as follows:

    - SINGLE STATUS with 0 allowances.
    - SINGLE STATUS with 1 allowance.
    - MARRIED STATUS, but withhold at the HIGHER SINGLE rate.
    - MARRIED STATUS with 0 allowances.
    - MARRIED STATUS with 1 allowance.
    - MARRIED STATUS with 2 allowances.

    This ensures that enough money is withheld from your pay to cover your federal uincome tax liability.

    You should claim MARRIED STATUS with 2 allowances.
