    Can unions be used in the attic
    We have galvanized piping in the attic and unions that are exposed, we were told that they need to be replaced because of leakage may occure. Thank you

    Hi hugon

    I am going to guess that we are talking about galvanized water pipes, right?

    If so, then I'll tell you that a union is in no more danger of leaking than any of the other galvanized fittings in the house, so I see no reason to replace any part of the system unless you have reduced pressure/volume issues.

    With that being said, however, if you are in the middle of a remodel project and it is handy to replace the galvanized piping at this time I would recommend that you do so as galvanized piping is old and will eventually cause issues, but again, issues more like clogged pipes/reduced pressure/volume... not so much burst pipe issues, OK?

    I agree with Mark about the union. However,
    You're acting like this pipe's a new remodel that hasn't seen cold weather yet. Is this the case? Back to you, Tom
