I have accidentally spilled a large amount of water on my electric stove top. So much that one of the receptacles threw sparks and now does not work. The heating element is fine.I have done some research and I think that I need to replace somethng called an infinite switch. Does that sound like right? Thanks for any advice.

I have a GE range and had an infinite swicth go bad. The inside of these switches contain thin strips of copper that could burn open in the event of a short (dumping a bunch of water in the drip pan). Can you check to see if the switch is getting power? If the switch is getting power but its not getting to the burner, the switch is your problem. There are cheap voltmeters available at most hardware stores. If you get a new switch, be careful with rewiring, make sure the wires go on the new switch the exact way they came off the old.
