    Hair colour disaster!
I used to have blonde highlights but got tired of the roots always coming through (my natural colour is a dark blonde with a kind of auburn, coppery undertone). I went to the hairdresser and he put an orange base coat over the highlights and then a permanent dye the same as my natural colour. He didn't apply anything to the roots and it looked very natural. I was worried it would be a bit of a shock to see my hair all one block colour so asked him to put just a few very subtle highlights through the hair. Unfortunately, these turned out to be literally, thick white streaks! I hated this and so attempted to dye just the streaks with a dark ash blonde to blend them in. What actually happened was that the streaks didn't really change colour but the hair around that had the dye applied to it by mistake turned a light ginger colour! So the effect was streaky and patchy on top! At this stage I went back to a hairdresser who applied a semi-permanent dye which was dark blonde. She mixed it with, I think, 15% chestnut in order to add some red tones to counteract the khaki green tone that was starting to appear where I had had my highlights dyed originally!

This looked fine and I was happy with the results but it started to wash out. I then applied a kind of conditioning treatment for brown hair, which the hairdresser had sold me. Unfortunately, instead of toning down the ginger on top and green on the bottom, which were beginning to show through again, what I am now left with is over all more dull coloured hair and on the old blonde streaks, blue! The overall effect is horrible! So my problem is not only the blue streaks but the green undertones in the majority of my hair and the orangey tones at the top where I attempted to dye the streaks before! I can't afford to go back to the hairdresser! Could I buy two semi-permanent dyes and mix them as the hairdresser did, say a neutral with a bit of a red toned colour together?
