    Replacement Shower Drain Cover
    We just had our master shower stall retiled and I am looking for a replacement shower drain cover but I can't seem to find one that fits. I already checked out the shopping.com website recommended here. I can use either a 4" or 4 1/4" diameter cover but the holes are set 2 7/8" apart. It seems all the standard sizes are 4"D with 3 3/8" holes or 4 1/4"D with 2 5/8" holes. I can't find any covers that can be screwed in.

    Can a snap-in cover be used in this situation? Or can a drain cover be glued or caulked in place in lieu of screwing it in? Should caulk be applied around the edge of the drain cover anyway after it has been installed? The guy who did the tiling said you cannot caulk the cover in place but I am not sure he is an expert. Any help would be appreciated.

    If I were you I'd be looking to the tile guy and asking why he did not make a standard sized drain. Hope you did not pay him 100% yet, always hold out 25% until you are sure you are satisified.

    It isn't up to the tilesetter to supply the drain or the connection to it -- That is the job of the Plumber or the Homeowner.

    What happened to the original cover?

    If it's still around, is it worth having it re-plated?

    And the Tilesetter was correct, caulking it in is a bad idea, there may come a time when you want to remove the cover to snake out the drain.

    The big box stores [home depot, Lowe's, and ace] carry different types of drains, check around, you will find it.

    They make shower drain covers, floor drain covers for bell traps just about any type of floor drain cover you need for residential, commercial, and industrial. Check them out.
