    Taking away parental rights for an adoption
    I live in Indiana and my daughters father lives in West Virginia. He would like to sign his rights over. How would we go about doing this? I know my boyfriend would adopt her in a heartbeat but not sure how'd that'd work either.. Please HELP!

    The father can't just sign his rights away. That is a myth that a parent can do this.

    You need to check with a local Family Law attorney as to what the requirements are for your boyfriend to adopt. In most areas, only a step parent can adopt which means you have to be married for a time for him to adopt.

    The only way the father will be allow to relinquish his rights is to clear the way for an adoption. So that's what you need to do.
