Can't use washer and have a shower at same time. Why?
The water that is draining from the washer will come up the shower drain? Will this be expensive to fix? The house was built in 1950.

    Hi AussieRita

It shouldn't be too bad an expense here, but hard to say as I simply don't know your set up, right?

It sounds like the drain line needs to be snaked (cleaned)... can snake down the washer vent or drain if a cleanout is present, or can snake down the shower vent (if present). Worst case, you can snake the drain through the shower PTRAP but I try to avoid snaking through PTRAPS unless absolutely necessary.

If you want to do this buy some goggles and leather gloves and go RENT an electric snake from a tool rental store. Otherwise, check with your local plumber as he/she should be able to make quick work of this!
