What will be my wife's tax status for 2012 returns?
I am filing married filing separately for 2011. I am filing 1040 and my wife is filing 1040 NR.

She is working in US and will continue in US for the entire 2012. I wanted to ask if I file 1040 NR for her and I file 1040 for 2011 ( married filing separately) can we both file 1040 married filing jointly for 2012 returns next year?

    Many thanks.

Yes on filing jointly for 2012.

You can PROBABLY file jointly for 2011.

Is there a specific reason why you are filing separate returns for 2011?

    This question has my situation:

    https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/taxes/working-wife-relocating-foreign-country-but-still-non-resident-2011-a-635720.html

I am filing separately and not treating her resident because I want to avoid taxation on world wide income.
