Indian EPF distribution implication on US tax returns
    Hi,

I had worked in India for a employer 8 year and moved to US. I had worked last 2 years for same employer in US and filed tax returns in US. Now in tax year 2011 I resigned employer and joined a new employer. As a result of this event, I withdraw my EPF money from old employer Trust in India.

My question is what will be tax implication of this event on my 2011 tax returns in US? Do I need to file Form 3520 "Annual Return To Report Transactions With Foreign Trusts and Receipt of Certain Foreign Gifts"

    Thanks
    Lokesh

This question will require some research in the U.S.-India Tax Treaty, research I CANNOt do at this time of year without compensation.

Recommend you seek advice froma LOACL tax expert with international tax experience.
